Jeremy Theocharis

Hi, I’m Jeremy. I’m the Co-Founder and CTO of the United Manufactruing Hub (UMH), where we make factory data infrastructure boring, reliable, and open-source. With a background in Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration from RWTH Aachen, I bridge the gap between engineering and IT to enhance manufacturing processes.

I’m interested in writing articles and explaining complex concepts in plain language. My works have been referenced on Wikipedia (1, 2), or discussed on HackerNews (3, 4).

Boring is Awesome means choosing simple solutions from deep technical understanding. After years working with distributed systems, I’ve learned that anyone can build complex systems with fancy tech stacks and a lot of configuration options, but the incredibly hard work is creating something so simple that users actually enjoy using it — something most enterprise software completely misses.

In my free time, I enjoy exploring tech books like Designing Data-Intensive Applications and staying current with industry discussions on Hacker News. You’ll also find me unwinding with games like League of Legends, Stellaris, or Kerbal Space Program.

Started with Kubernetes-based architecture in UMH-Classic, evolved to lightweight edge computing with UMH-Core. Leading also the development of benthos-umh for industrial protocol connectivity.
